| New Transformer Coming
MAY 31, 2006 - Who is this man and what is he doing in this hole.
No . . . he is not hunting for water buffalo . . . and no . . . he is not being persecuted for his faith.
This is Don Walton, one of the men who works so faithfully at the church keeping everything going. He is actually digging a five foot hole so that they can install power poles.
As the ministry of Iglesia Bethel grew and more facilities were added, it became evident that they needed . . . MORE POWER. For those of you who think this is just a guy thing, this is actually a real need. We are talking about the kind of power that comes down the electric lines.
A study done several years ago recommended that a new power line and transformer be installed. Up to now, the church has operated on a residential power line. When you have a pool pump, well pumps, refrigerators, freezer, computer lab, and now two large house/dormitories operating, that exceeds the capacity of the power lines pretty quickly.
There is just one hitch . . . in Nicaragua, if you need a new line and transformer, there are some requirements;
You have to pay for the transformer (about $5000)
You have to buy and install the power poles
You have to pay the power company to install the new line and hook up the transformer.
You then sign it all over to the power company and they take over maintenance. What a deal!!
This was not an easy purchase for this group of believers . . . but . . . without the needed power, all future expansion plans would have to be put on hold (and there are many more great things that God has in store for this work)
God graciously has provided the funds so that this transformer could be purchased. It is now on the church property waiting to be installed.
Well, the transformer is waiting to be installed. The power poles were delivered and it was an adventure dragging them up the hill to the right location using Pastor Vital's truck.
Just a few days ago, the power company came out and showed Pastor Vital and Don Walton where to put the poles.
Here Don Walton is digging the needed 5 1/2 foot hole by hand so that they can set the pole. As he gets a small scoopful of dirt in his fence pole digger, he hands it up to Victor who deposits the dirt on the pile.

Once this hole is dug, there are only four more to go. It will be interesting to see how they actually lift the poles up to drop them in the hole. The poles must weigh close to 1000 lbs each (literally)
Don Walton and Victor take care of the maintenance and security on this large property. Even though they have their own homes, they actually stay at the church 24 hours per day. This is real dedication but they do it out of their love for the Lord and the vision they share with the rest of the church.
