| The New Tower
MAY 1, 2006 - The church property is served by high speed internet (500 kbs) which comes in through an antenna. The service is called Turbonett and is provided by Enitel.
The antenna was initially mounted on the roof of one of the children's buildings, but the reception was undependable. It was actually great in bad weather but then faded in sunny clear weather.
As you can tell, the installers from Enitel are rather brave souls, climbing a homemade ladder onto the roof.
After the signal problems continued, Pastor Vital decided to build a 70 foot tower with the help of a local welder. It took about two days, but when all was said and done, the tower was ready in 10 foot segments.
The first thirty feet of the tower was assembled and raised in one piece and set in concrete. It was also welded to the rebar in the building so that it would be very strong and withstand the high winds of rainy season.
Here one of the church staff stands on the roof and steadies the antenna while it is secured to the building and set in concrete.
Why is Internet so important?
The internet is used for research in the before and after school programs. It is also used to access valuable Bible study tools. In addition, we are using a VOIP phone adapter to provide more cost effective phone service to the USA and to surrounding countries, saving $200.00 or more each month. |
