A Daughter Given Back

MAY 28, 2006 - During the evening church services, there is a special time for people to stand up and share their testimony of what God has done in their lives.

During this Mother's Day service, Lizbeth got up and shared her story. Her mother, Emelina is seen here giving her moral support as well as holding her up because she was still very tired from her serious illness.

Lizbeth had been diagnosed with a severe case of HELLP syndrome. If you don't know what that is you can click here for more information.

Before we go further, we must mention that the doctors in Nicaragua were all on strike over low wages (something like $300 per month on average). This made it difficult to even see a doctor, which compounded the problems.

Sunday May 7th - at about 4 in the morning her husband took her to the hospital very ill. She experienced several convulsions and the doctors in Bluefields took the baby prematurely to try to save Lizbeth. The doctors were so pessimistic about her survival that they did a very sloppy job of sewing her back up. They expected her to die.

Monday May 8th - things kept getting worse instead of getting better. Her kidney and liver functions had stopped and she was becoming swollen because of the problem. As Lizbeth's vital signs continued to deteriorate, the doctors had lost all hope and told her so. Her liver and blood tests looked quite bad.

Tuesday May 9th - the doctors sent her to Managua. The hospital did not even want to receive her because of the doctor's strike, but when they did, she was the only one in the ICU. The hospital administrator begged doctors to come in and see her. The doctors there gave her the same prognosis. It was hopeless.

Wednesday May 10th - the doctors continued to look at her, running exams and tests but finding no solutions. Lizbeth could not eat or drink because of the swelling so she was being fed intraveneously. Her premature baby, still in Bluefields died that day.

Her mother, Emilina, the deaconess of the church talked to Pastor Vital who told her to go to Managua and do her work as a deaconess with her daughter.

In love, Emilina asked her daughter if she had anything to confess. Lizbeth opened u her heart and began to confess her sins of rebellion. She had married an unbelieving man even though she was a believer, even though she knew it was wrong.

Lizbeth said that after that confession, she was able to pray and she knew that God was healing her sickness. She accepted her healing in faith.

The doctors would ask her how she was feeling and she would say "I am fine." She was simply answering in faith because she knew in her heart that God would heal her. The doctors went to her mother and said "Her tests are all very bad. How is it that she says she is feeling fine?"

That night after her confession her health got worse and her faith was tested but she continued to pray and rebuke the sickness. Two of the members of the church even had dreams of a funeral the next day, but they would not accept it. It only caused them to pray with greater urgency. The were not willing to give up on Lizbeth.

Many of the church members prayed through the night. Pastor Vital opened up an encyclopedia to a picture of a kidney and prayed over it so he could see what he was praying about. Sometime during the night, healing began to flow into her body, healing that the doctors had said was impossible. This was a tremendous testimony to the church of the power of God they experienced in their prayer.

Thursday, May 11th - the doctors continued to tell her how grave the situation was and she kept telling them that she was fine. They kept telling her mother Emelina how bad things were. Finally Emelina told the doctor "God is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, and it depends on God and not on anyone else."

Friday - Sunday - the doctors kept checking the tests and giving her a very grave prognosis.

Monday, May 15th - the doctors began to see improvement in all of her tests and they began to realize that she was getting better

Saturday, May 20th - Lizbeth was moved out of ICU as she continued to improve

Wednesday, May 23rd - Lizbeth was released from the hospital.

Saturday, May 27th - Lizbeth returned to Bluefields.

Sunday May 28th - Lizbeth gave her testimony in the church.

Her healing was simply an act of the grace of God, no more and no less. The doctors had given up on her and medicine offered no solutions. Her only solution was found in coming back to the Lord Jesus Christ.

God sometimes takes away every shred of human hope in our lives so that we will place our hope in Him alone. You can see this in several of the people whom Jesus healed. They had lost all hope, but when they turned to Jesus, he gave them hope that was beyond any human comprehension.

A praying church played a large part in Lizbeth's healing. When is the last time you prayed through the night, crying out in desperation to the Lord for someone who was ill? You can read more about Iglesia Bethel's prayer warriors here.
